Introducing: ‘The Butcher Boy’ Francy Luzoho

Just like a magpie is drawn to shiny trinkets, the lure of glistening belts tempted Francy Luzoho to go pro.

The three-time novice champion and Celtic Box Cup winner, who makes is debut on the ‘Rise Again’ card set for the National Basketball Arena on Saturday October 6th, wants to decorate his waist with glistening belts.

Indeed, the Steven O’Rourke-trained light welter has set himself a two-weight Irish title goal and wants to go down in Irish boxing history as a great.

“The decision to turn over came about because I always had a pro style and I love the back fort exchange nature of the pros. Then you have the shiny belts, that’s always alluring,” he explained to Irish-boxing.com before explaining a desire to go down as the best will help make him stand out from the number of early day pros currently on the scene.

“What will make me stand out from the rest?” he mused. “My entertaining style and the desire to go down in Irish history and the world as the best. I am going to shoot for the stars.”

Luzoho, who describes himself as a switcher, banger, scraper, and boxer who likes to excite, knows reaching the top will take time and hard work, but in the short term he is happy to bank experience and make an impact domestically.

“Short term, the goal is to get as much experience in the pro scene as possible and get that experience by fighting. After that I want to be Irish champion in two weights classes then take things to world level,” he added before going through his fight CV.

“I started boxing at 18. My first club was Arbor Hill. Later I linked up with Steven [O’Rourke] where I won three novice titles in a row. I also won the Celtic Box Cup and after I left Ireland for a year and a half.”

“I went to Tenerife where I trained in the number one boxing gym in Tenerife, Povedano, with the head trainer Emanuel Povedano. I have now returned to Ireland and reunited with Steven O’Rourke for my pro debut.”

Luzoho, who is of Congolese stock, is one of five Rise Again debutants alongside his stablemate Paddy Nevin, Stephen Webb, Eddie Tracey, and Martin Wall.

‘The Butcher Boy’ isn’t sure who will man the opposite corner just yet is hoping for an early test to sink his meat cleavers in to.

“I have no news on my opponent yet, but I’d like someone that comes to fight, has experience, and is tough.”
