Introducing our new Fitness Features Section

All of us here at Junior Sport Media are delighted to announce that we will be launching our fitness features section with Shane Flynn, a prominent and leading figure in the fitness industry over the past 5 years. Shane is the owner of Next Generation Speed (NGS Fitness) Gym in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.

NGS believes in the transfer of strength and conditioning into team performances on the pitch. It takes pride in analysing the sport, the team and the individual players they are training in order to identify the specific muscular and fitness adaptations each player requires in order to perform to their maximum ability in the team.

Experience has shown that one program does not fit all and therefore the necessity to individually assess every player is crucial to determine any weaknesses or compensations.

In the coming weeks Shane will be delivering a number of tutorials on the benefits for you and proper technique of specific exercises you can incorporate into your fitness routine while also providing more general fitness information and answering any queries you have.

Shane completed an honours degree in Retail and Services Management in D.I.T and during this time commenced his studies to be a strength and conditioning coach under the guise of some of the top strength and conditioning coaches in Ireland. These coaches passed on valuable experience with top organisations including the IRFU and indeed multiple leading British and Irish rugby teams.

Shane studied under well known educator and S&C coach Karl Gilligan where he completed a certificate in S&C along with a variety of workshops. Shane also has studied in New York where he became a Certified Physical Preparation Specialist (CPPS) under the eye of Joe de Franco and Jim Smith.

SHANE FLYNNShane has represented Westmeath County GAA team and was an integral part in the St. Loman’s GAA team which won the Westmeath County Championship before losing out in the Leinster semi-final to Ballyboden. Shane competed in the National Amateur Bodybuilding Association competition in 2015 and is currently training for the Republic of Ireland Bodybuilding Federation competition in 2016.

Shane’s goal is to help people improve their health, fitness, and sporting performance while also dispelling an age-old myth that you cannot balance a “bodybuilding” type physique and remain injury free, mobile, fast, and fit enough to compete in a team based, athletic type sport such as GAA where speed and agility are paramount. So keep an eye on our fitness section over the coming weeks and PM us with any questions you may have for Shane.

You can check out his instagram at Flynner64 for more tips on training.
