Injury forces withdrawal of Irish champion from Celtic Clash 2 card

The massive card in Dublin next Saturday has been hit by the withdrawal of one of the big names from the line-up

It was confirmed this morning that Irish super middleweight champion JJ McDonagh [14(7)-3(1)] will no longer feature on the May 27th bill at the National Stadium.

The Mullingar southpaw has been withdrawn due to a “slight hand strain.”

McDonagh had been sparring in Ukraine with recent world title challenger Max Bursak ahead of what was going to be his return to the ring after his stunning upset win over Jake Ball last November.

Despite this, the card next week remains the largest in Irish boxing history. The line-up is now comprised of headliner Eric Donovan, chief support Crank Whitehouse, and a full undercard featuring Jay Byrne, Mike Perez, Stephen Carroll, Sean Creagh, Vladimir Belujsky, Rohan Date, Carl McDonald, Allan Phelan, and Lynn Harvey, as well as debutants Liam Gaynor, John Joyce, Regan Buckley, John Corcoran, Stephen McAfee, and Keane McMahon.

Tickets for Celtic Clash 2 are priced at €15 (Under 15s), €30, €40, €45, and €55 (Premium), and are available from the boxers involved.
