‘Inevitable’ – Chantelle Cameron believes she is destined to fight Katie Taylor

Chantelle Cameron believes she is on a collision course with Katie Taylor and claims a bout between the pair is ‘inevitable’.

The English lightweight marked her return to the ring with a knockout victory over Feriche Mashauri in York Hall on Saturday night.

Following six months out, Cameron moved to 9(t)-0 with a second-round stoppage of her Tanzanian foe.

The former Cyclone Promotions fighter and re-united team-mate of Carl Frampton and Conrad Cummings believes the win is another step toward a possible fight with the unified WBA-IBF-WBO champion.

Team Taylor will be happy to hear Cameron talk up the possibility of a clash and equally content to see her win on the weekend, but the Northampton power-puncher will be on the long rather than short list of potential opponents.

Bray boxer Taylor’s next objective is undisputed status something she can achieve with victory over WBC titlist Delfine Persoon in New York on June 1st.

Become a four belt world champion and the Matchroom star hopes for mega fights with Amanda Serrano and even Cecilia Brækhus before the year is out.

If she continues to win and builds a possible clash the Jamie Moore-trained Cameron could well be a Taylor foe in 2020 and the fighter herself seems suggests she will be.

“Every interview I do, I’m asked about a future fight with Katie Taylor. It’s inevitable as she’s at the pinnacle of women’s boxing at the moment,” she explained.

“It would be an unreal fight. I’m willing to take the fight, it’s up to her team to take the fight as well. I would fight her, let’s get the fight made and see it happen.”

“Katie has opened the doors for all of us to come through as professionals. She’s a great athlete and a great world champion. I hope we fight one day as I think it’s a fight a lot of people want to see,” she adds before claiming she has improved since teaming up with former Irish champion Moore.

“I feel like I’ve made big improvements since joining Jamie. I’ve definitely added a lot more to my skill set and I’m still learning in every session,” said Cameron.

“There’s so much more to come from me under Jamie and Nigel Travis. They’re fantastic coaches and have the time and patience I need to become the best I can be.

“I’ve a great team behind me now,” she continued, pointedly. “Everything’s on the positive. It’s been amazing, it’s not felt like camp, it’s been fun.”
