‘In a heartbeat’- McMahon keen to fight Noel Murphy for Irish title in Cork

Keane McMahon says he would agree to fight Noel Murphy for the Irish title ‘in a heartbeat’.
New York-based Murphy [12(2)-1(0)-1] returns home on Saturday July 20th to top a Martin Horgan run ‘Leeside Revolution’ card at the Neptune Stadium – and seems all parties involved want to come back with a bang.
The promoter and fighter want to the top of the first bill in Cork in over a decade to be an Irish title fight.
Murphy’s manager Kevin Crowley said as much when news broke of boxing’s return to the ‘Rebel County’- and the news put a host of welterweight talent on red alert.
Rumour suggests Jay Byrne may be in pole position in terms of the fight, but another fighter who is both Irish title and Noel Murphy keen is McMahon.
“Absolutely I’d take that fight in a heartbeat,” the Dub told Irish-boxing.com before revealing he has yet to be contacted with regard to the fight.

“There hasn’t been any contact as far as I know, but it’s a great fight for the fans though. Two young lads both hungry,” he continues with a sales pitch.

The July 20 fight night should prove a massive celebration for Cork and Cork boxing. Murphy will no doubt bring a large support and have the backing of the city, but that doesn’t phase ‘The Iceman’.
McMahon claims he has lions den experience having traveled to Aberdeen to fight Dean Sutherland for the BUI Celtic title earlier this month- and would have no issue fighting at the Neptune Stadium.
“I have no issue going to Cork whatsoever. I think I showed in my last outing travelling to the lions den is no issue when there is a good fight to be made.”
McMahon lost a competitive 8 round fight with Sutherland, but thinks the result would different against Murphy whose last win was against Dublin’s John Joyce in Boston.
“Noel is a very good lad. I’d rate him as one of the best. Obviously I believe I would win the fight but I’ve just came off the back of a close loss so I’m not going to run my mouth, but definitely believe I have the tools to beat him.”
