“I’m a banger and Con isn’t” – says Sean Turner after statement KO

Early on on the ‘Belfast Boys Are Back’ card in Belfast there was a big knockout for Sean Turner [10(7)-0].

The Dublin heavyweight sent Croat Igor Mihaljevic down for the count in the second with a snappy left hook at the Waterfront Hall.

The quick win will have helped Big Sexy somewhat get over the disappointment of not facing Kamil Sokolowski last week on the Ginley Promotions bill, and he has now hit the ten wins milestone and is finally title eligible.

Speaking to Irish-Boxing.com afterwards, Turner described how “it’s just another day at the office. It’s good to get a fight in after last week’s one falling through. I just went in there, took my time in the first round, caught him with a few nice shots, set him up, and put him out of there. It was a nice crisp one.”

“I just went in to try and enjoy myself in there. This opponent wasn’t as good as the last opponent [Ivica Perkovic], so I just had a bit more time to put a few shots together.”

The scrapped Sokolowski fight had offered a potential for comparison with Irish title rival Con Sheehan, who was given a relatively competitive fight by the Pole. While not to the same degree, Mihaljevic also provided a yardstick, with Sheehan having dominated the Balkan over four rounds back in September.

When asked how his stoppage measured up, Turner replied that “it is what it is, I’m a banger and Con isn’t. We’ll see how things go from here.”

“That’s the eight rounder out of the way, so I’m title eligible now.”
