‘Don’t get arrogant. I’ll fight you with one hand you c***’ McDonagh reacts to Eubank

There was more drama in the minutes following the fight than anytime during Chris Eubank and JJ McDonagh’s clash in Saudi Arabia tonight.

Eubank Jr got the better of the clash and registered victory when McDonagh was unable to come out for the fourth round.

The Westmeath fighter, who was in confident mood going into the clash on the undercard of George Groves and Callum Smith’s WBSS final, suffered a shoulder injury and was unable to come out for the fourth.

Then when Eubank Jr suggested his foe may have taken the easy route out during a post fight interview, McDonagh reacted and offered to fight the Brighton super middle one handed.

Speaking to ITV Box Office after the fight, Eubank Jr said: “He says it’s his right shoulder. I’m not convinced but it is what it is.

“This was my opportunity to shake off some ring rust, it was good while it lasted but the going was too tough for him and he quit. I was starting to land at will.

“I caught him early and usually would have gone into destroy mode but I wanted the rounds and to display some of my boxing skills. I wanted to show I could box.”

McDonagh wasn’t impressed and explained,

“I had a bad shoulder injury, I took the fight and he is a great fighter. If I was able to fight on then I would. I had no sparring.

“I hurt my shoulder through the second, from then on he would have destroyed me, there’s no point taking a beating.”

Eubank Jr then once again insisted as a fighter he should have carried on, with McDonagh adding:

“Don’t get arrogant, Let’s have a straighter right now, I’ll fight you with one hand you c***.”

The Irish fighter will be disapointed not only with the result, but the fact the injury didn’t allow him the chance to pit a peak McDonagh against the controversail and well known name.
