IABA explain why Taylor didn’t appear in Stadium and apologise to fans

Fight fans were left disappointed they didn’t get to see Katie Taylor in action yesterday as the IABA opened their doors for a host of test bouts with Lithuania.

The boxing faithful turned up to see Olympic hopefuls and Irish fight favourites such as Paddy Barnes, Micheal Conlan and indeed Katie Taylor in ring action at the national Stadium.

However, much to the disappointment of  those in attendance London 2012 hero and the Worlds greatest ever female puncher, Taylor was relegated to the High Performance Gym rather than the Stadium.

The decision to move Taylor and Senior Champion Kurt Walker’s clash prompted criticism for the IABA and raised a number of questions.

The organisation released a Statement today which included the following explanation.

Olympic hero Katie Taylor was also scheduled to take to the National Stadium’s main ring alongside Ireland’s Elite Men after 4pm, but unfortunately due to a personal commitment which arose yesterday, the IABA were happy to facilitate her request for her test bout with Kurt Walker to take place an hour earlier at 3pm at the adjacent National Stadium gym. Irish Interim Head Coach, Zuari Antia said: “Katie requested that her bout with Kurt be held an hour earlier at 3pm because she had a personal appointment. We were pleased to facilitate her request.”

The IABA would like to apologise to any fans that were disappointed not to see their hero in action.
