“I will be 100 per cent bigger than him” – Conlan hopes to surpass inspirational Frampton

If he is to achieve his goal of becoming the the greatest Irish fighter of all time, Mick Conlan will have better the achievements of fellow Belfast man Carl Frampton [23(14)-1(0)].

Since becoming the first Irishman to become a unified world champ with defeat of Scott Quigg in February of 2016, and following it up with victory over Leo Santa Cruz to become only the second Irish two-weight World champion, ‘The Jackal’ has shot to #1 in a lot of fight fans ‘greatest ever Irish fighter’ list.

The Cyclone Promotions puncher, who humbly suggests Jimmy McLarnin should top a greatest-ever list, has set the modern day bar, but it’s one confident Conlan believes he can not only reach, but surpass.

Speaking in New York ahead of his high profile debut this weekend Conlan said that “seeing what Frampton has done definitely inspires me.”

“But I can go a lot bigger and better than what he has achieved. I am main event at Madison Square Garden from the get-go. Name me one other fighter who’s done that? I don’t know any.”

“It is special and we will take over this place. I will be 100 per cent bigger than him. It’s not just a feeling. I know I will. He’s done a lot but I know I will be better.”
