“I need to look good” – Healy hoping to impress ahead of Ireland’s Last Man Standing

Gerard Healy [6(0)-4(1)] claims entertaining his loyal fans and not Last Man Standing will be first and foremost in his mind when he gets into the ring tomorrow night.

‘Boom Boom’ fights on the ‘Danger and the Devenish 3’ show on Saturday night in Belfast less than a month before he will battle it out for a winners check of €25,000 in the single-elimination tournament at the National Stadium.

With a chance to increase his bank balance significantly, not to mention his profile by fighting live on TG4, most would expect the Belfast 34-year-old to box within himself in a bid to avoid cuts or any injury.

However, Healy feels he has a responsibility to the paying public and those who bought tickets to support him and suggests he won’t be coming back on a card with a strong line-up.

“I do have the Last Man Standing coming up, but on the other hand, I have to look good for my fans. They are paying to come watch me and I have to perform for them,” Healy told Irish-Boxing.com.

“I predict a good performance from myself. I need to look good and I need to box well.”

The looming Last Man Standing tournament might not effect Healy’s approach to his bout with journeyman Iain Jackson – however, he believes Saturday’s clash will be of benefit ahead of the eight-man tournament. Healy, who is adamant he will go all guns blazing come March 3rd, feels the rounds will stand to him early next month.

“I think the fight will very good for me and will help me get ready for Last Man Standing. I will be definitely one to watch in this [Last Man Standing] with nothing to lose everything to gain, ” he added before reflecting on Saturday’s fight.

“Camp has gone brilliant ahead of this fight. I know a bit about Iain, he fought on the same show as me before so I have a game plan.”
