Hungry Spike O’Sullivan expects David Lemieux to buckle under pressure

Spike O’Sullivan may be the underdog for his big fight his weekend but the Cork middleweight doesn’t know why.

The 33-year-old faces former world champ David Lemieux on the Gennady Golovkin v Canelo Alvarez middleweight title rematch undercard in Las Vegas and is predicting a dominant win at the T-Mobile Arena.

While Lemieux [39(33)-4(2)] is four years younger, O’Sullivan feels he is the hungrier fighter and he doesn’t see this as his only advantage.

The Mahon man is confident that he is better than the Québécois fighter in all areas and this will show in the ring on Saturday night in a fight which offers a potential path to the winner of the main event and the WBC and WBA titles.

Indeed, O’Sullivan [28(20)-2(1)] believes he has already beaten a better fighter than Lemieux in the last 12 months.

Back in December the Leesider scored an upset stoppage win of touted U.S. prospect Antoine Douglas in Montreal on the undercard of Lemieux’s disastrous challenge of WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders.

This win boosts O’Sullivan’s already sky-high confidence and he told fightnews that “I think Antione Douglas would easily beat Lemieux, he’d frustrate him and be too fast for him, and you saw what I was able to do to Douglas.”

“I love the [Lemieux] fight, I think our styles match up perfectly to give the fans a brilliant show.”

Most do believe it will be a brilliant fight, a slugfest of a shootout, and O’Sullivan promises that he will be the last man standing.

The Celtic Warriors man outlined how “Lemieux is strong and has fought top competition, but I will put pressure on him he won’t be able to handle for long.”

“It’s never good to give away the plan, but I believe I’m the better, more skilled fighter in all departments. We both hit very hard, but I have the better defence and boxing ability.”

“I’ll not take anything away from him, and I’ve got great respect for everyone that steps in the ring, but the man that wants it more will have his hand raised on Saturday, and that man is Spike O’Sullivan.”
