Hungry Hogan believes he has game plane to dethrone Monster Munguia

Dennis Hogan [28(7)-1(0)-1] is confident he has a game plan to beat Jaime Munguia and become world champion in Mexico this Saturday night.

The WBO light middleweight champion may not Rubik’s Cube-complex in terms of what he brings to the ring, but by virtue of his sheer size and power many deem him as difficult to beat at the weight as some of the more naturally gifted world champions.

Kildare’s Hogan doesn’t seem to agree.

The Brisbane-based Irishmen was one of the few contenders praying the Golden Boy and Xanfer fighter wouldn’t outgrow the weight before he got his chance to beat him as he has a burning desire to dethrone the reigning champion.

Hogan also believes he has the game plan to beat Munguia [32(26)-0] – a fighter his promoter has more than once compared to Ivan Drago of Rocky IV fame.

The mandatory challenger claims his coach Glen Rushton has seen flaws in a fighter who makes his fourth defence at Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon this weekend – and is adamant he can exploit them.

“Every single fighter will do little things here and there that you can exploit. I mean, even a fighter that doesn’t make many mistakes, there’s still a game plan you can work out to beat that fighter. So, without saying too much about whatever holes Munguia may be have, we certainly have developed a game plan to be able to defeat his style, and whatever it is that anyone brings to the table,” a bullish Hogan revealed.

It seems Team Hogan have been studying the 22-year-old star of the future since he made his first defence against Liam Smith last summer and believe they have plotted a plan that could bring about a shock win.

Interestingly enough,, the former Australian champion avoided any of the rumours that suggest the Mexican may be struggling at the weight. Hogan believes so much in his ability and the tactics that he doesn’t think he needs a helping hand in terms of his foe’s weight issues.

“I’m always supremely confident in my ability, and the game plan we worked out after Smith has — we’ve been working on that since then, and everything that we’ve seen since correlates with that plan that we’ve made. I’ve been ticking the boxes in training and making sure I can execute that plan, and that’s why right now I’m supremely confident I’ll be world champion April 13th.”

The fact Hogan didn’t want to wait around for Munguia to move up is not only proof he is not afraid of the champion, but suggests he didn’t want an easier route to the title.

The Kilcullen man holds world success in such regard that he wants to achieve it the proper manner.

Hogan seems to believe world dominance is his destiny and, having visualized himself with the title around his waist, can almost taste victory.

“The hunger I have for this World Championship belt is like nothing I’ve ever known before, and when I’ve found narrowed in focused on something I really want, I can achieve anything, so I know I can achieve this and get the win. I have as good a team around me, we’re ticking all the boxes, and I have nothing but supreme confidence. It means the world to me and my family and my team to lift that belt for them and for myself.”
