Humbled Ohara Davies issues apology after insulting Barnes newlyweds
Ohara Davies was at the centre of on online controversy again today.
The fighter, who has traded barbs with Carl Frampton and Shane McGuigan in the past, has been subject to a lot of online criticism over the past two weeks in the wake of his crushing defeat to ‘The Jackal’s’ stablemate Josh Taylor.
Due to his outwardly brash persona in the build up, and in general, the Matchroom boxer has received a lot of flak recently, including some from Belfast’s double Olympic bronze medalist Paddy Barnes.
The Cliftonville flyweight is currently in the United Arab Emirates on honeymoon after wedding childhood sweetheart Mari Burns – and Davies used this as an opportunity to send a personal insult.
Yesterday Davies would respond to a photo of Barnes and his new wife atop the Burj Khalifa building with some derogatory comments on the pair’s appearance.
Almost immediately Davies would receive a barrage of criticism for his remarks and the Londoner took down the tweet a half an hour afterwards – although screenshots had been taken the criticism continued unabated.
It’s all fair game but if you have a lisp and can’t box you should quit 😂👀#ohahadavies

This morning, Davies tweeted an apology in which he referred to Mari as Barnes’s ‘girl’ as well as noting that it was Barnes who had sent him disparaging messages first. This tweet was then also deleted before OD issued a second apology with more reserved language.
