Homecoming opponent named for Ciaran McVarnock

Ciaran McVarnock [6(1)-0-1] makes his long awaited homecoming on Friday night.

‘Bunty’ has not fought in Belfast in over two years, and will make his return on the inaugural Ginley Promotions bill at the Devenish Complex.

In what will be his MTK debut, the featherweight will face off against Croatian journeyman Antonio Horvatic [10(5)-31(8)] over four rounds.

A regular on the British scene, the Croat has fought and lost to the likes of Romeo Romaeo (TKO6), Mitchell Smith (TKO3), Lewis Pettitt (TKO7), Boy Jones (PTS4), and Michael Roberts (PTS8). Just over a year ago the experienced Horvatic was also stopped in the first by McVarnock’s big-punching fellow Belfast man James Tennyson.

It’s a solid comeback fight for McVarnock who has been plagued by inactivity recently. In 2016 he fought just once, demolishing Ruslans Berudminovs inside a round, and the Latvian was later fined a portion of his purse for the performance.

Also featuring on the first Ginley Promotions card are Tyrone McCullagh, Alfredo Meli, Anto Upton, Stephen Ormond, Ian Tims, and Sean Turner.

Tickets for Dust Up at The Devenish cost £35 (unreserved) and £65 (ringside) and are available from the boxers on the bill or promoter Mark Ginley.
