Holt hoping to halt the rise of Feargal McCrory

Paul Holt [6(2)-4(2)] is a removals man by trade and, if he gets his way, he will take out Tyrone’s Feargal McCrory this Saturday.

A former BBBoC Midlands Area champ, Birmingham’s Holt takes on McCrory over six rounds in a battle of the super featherweight southpaws on the Ryan Burnett v Lee Haskins undercard.

Ahead of the fight at the SSE Odyssey Arena in Belfast, which looks to be McCrory’s toughest yet, ‘The Incredible Holt’ spoke to Irish-Boxing.com.

Such is his profession outside the ring, Holt comes into the bout in fighting shape. The 26 year old explained how “I’ve had a couple of weeks to get myself into fight shape – but I’m constantly doing stuff in the gym whether it be a gruelling session or just technical work, or even helping the younger generation out.”

“Plus my job helps me keep relatively fit as I’m a removal man so I’m constantly lifting heavy furniture up and down stairs!”

The Englishman is hoping to entertain the knowledgeable Belfast faithful this weekend.

Holt outlined that “as time has gone on, my style has changed. To start off with I was a stand off fighter who would just love to stand and trade, but as fights have gone on I’ve shown that I can box as well as stand my ground.”

“I know he [McCrory] is a southpaw which I am as well so I’m hoping that it doesn’t affect what I hope will be an entertaining fight for the fans who’ll be watching at the arena and on TV.”

“I know he’s unbeaten, he sounds like a strong come-forward fighter from what I can make out, but saying that, I can only judge myself after we’ve fought. I’m expecting a good, hard fight.”

While Holt may have a lot more experience in big fights than Coalisland’s McCrory, the Brummie is refusing to bank on this.

“It very may well be [an advantage], but he’s the home lad and he’ll be buzzing about the experience,” said Holt before quickly adding that “I‘m hyped up for it as well, don’t get me wrong, so it will make an interesting fight.”

“All I can say is may the best man win on the night.”

The Burnett-Haskins undercard at present also features an Irish cruiserweight title fight between Luke Watkins and Ian Tims, Feargal McCrory v Paul Holt, James Tennyson v Ryan Doyle, Paul Hyland Jr v Adam Dingsdale and appearances from Matt Wilton, Padraig McCrory, Paddy Gallagher, Sean Magee, and Tyrone McCullagh, as well as the return of Mike Perez.

Tickets for ‘Belfast Boy’ on June 10th at the SSE Odyssey Arena cost £30, £40, £60, £100, and £150 (VIP), and can be bought from the boxers involved (which we recommend, although today is the last day tickets are available from the fighters) or HERE.
