‘Hitman’ strikes again- Stevie McKenna with another first round KO

‘The Hitman’ man struck again last night.

Stevie McKenna extended his winning start to professional life with what is fast becoming expected quickfire and spectacular victory.

The Monaghan 22-year-old was one of many Irish fighters in action on Saturday, but the only one not to be fighting in Belfast, registered his third win since following his younger brother Aaron into the pro ranks as recent as April.

The Sheer Sports managed California based welter defeated fellow 22-year-old Kealoha Helm to add another win to his record.

Indeed, not only did McKenna make it three wins in four months he made he three knockout wins and even better again the victory was his third by first round KO.

The stoppage which played out at the Gardens Casino in Hawaiian Gardens was the most brutal of the three the Smithbourough man has registered to date. 

 

The victory was the first of either McKenna brother since it was confirmed that the Monaghan duo have come under the control of three-time Ring Magazine Trainer of the Year Robert Garcia at his famous gym in Oxnard, California.

Welterweight Aaron [8(5)-0] and lightweight Stevie [3(3)-0] have been based in Santa Monica, California for the past two years as they look to . transisition to the pros, training under South African Courage Tshabalala and their father, Fergal.

This team will stay together, with Garcia joining in.

The Mexican-American has trained a total of 12 fighters to world title honours – including four-weight champs Nonito Donaire and Mikey Garcia, his younger brother, as well as two-time Floyd Mayweather opponent Marcos Maidana.

The McKennas are both managed by Sheer Sports, with Aaron also promoted by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.
