Hearn believes he has sorted the Taylor ‘super fight’ issue

Katie Taylor has taken the pro game by storm.

10 fights, 10 wins, two world titles and the first women to top a fight night on Sky Sports it’s been a brilliant 20 months.

However, to turn brilliant career to a sensational one there are those who feel the former amateur trailblazer needs noteworthy opponents and real rivals.

Taylor’s manager Brian Peters did recently call for all potential rivals to step up to the plate and fight while urging them to to up their game in terms of building their profiles.

He also revealed Taylor is ready for all big challenges now.

On the wish list are the likes of Amanda Serrano, sister of the Bray sensations next foe Cindy, the Barry McGuigan Chantelle Cameron, Olympian Mikaela Mayer and of course the rematch with Natasha Jonas. Then there are possible fights with the two remaining lightweight champions WBC champion Define Peerson and WBO champ Rose Volante.

Serrano has done well to build a bit of rivalry and the fact Taylor fights her sister provides nice narrative, Jonas seems keen for a clash early next year,  Mayer is not the weight and wants to fulfill her title ambitions before trading leather with the Irish star, while there is a feeling Cameron might need a bit of building.

However, in Cecilia Braekhus Hearn believes there is a ready made opponent for a ‘super fight’.

Speaking to Talksport on Monday morning the Matchroom boss claimed a catch-weight clash with Braekhus would be the perfect test for the Olympic gold medal winner.

The Colombian is rated by some as Pound for Pound #1 in the female game and victory over her would cement Taylor’s status as a superstar.

The fighter, who is undefeated in 34 fights and fights out of Norway, looks set to appear on the Gennady Golovkin Saul Alveraz undercard alongside Cork’s Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan and would be deemed ideal for Hearn’s DAZN link up.

Braekhus CV makes for impressive reading and she has broken barriers in the game already. She is the only female to unify a division and just fifth boxer ever to complete the feat alongside Bernard Hopkins, Jermain Taylor, Terence Crawford and Oleksandr Usyk.

Her name was dropped by both Brian Peters and Taylor pre and post the successful title defence against Kimberly Connor in London on Saturday, but the fact Hearn is now muting the possibility of a clash between the two big names suggests the wheels may be motion.
