Harvey fight cancelled because champion feared Hunter would steal the show?

It appears Lynn Harvey’s ‘star quality’ has bizarrely prompted another career set back.

The Kilbarrack fighter last week confirmed she would be returning to Spain to fight on a PBK Promotions show.

Her opponent was confirmed as Aouatif Al Kallachi, the date as July 6 and the venue was Paterna de Rivera, Spain.

Indeed, ‘The Hunter’ was meant to appear on the undercard of the fighter who stopped her to claim the European straweight title earlier this year, Cathy Diaz’s first title defense.

Speaking to Irish-boxing.com PBK, who had agreed verbally to sign the Irish fighter and pursued her post being impressed with her approach against Diaz, said they had big plans for the Reg Byrne trained fighter at flyweight.

“Lynn Harvey will be fighting in Paterna de Rivera, Caty Diaz’s home town near Cadiz. The fight will be an open air show at Paterna football stadium. Lynn is now with PBK Promotion. This fight will be a rehabilitating fight on the road to bigger things at a more comfortable weight of 51 kg. Lynn has real star quality and we are looking forward to working with her,” Irish-boxing.com were told last month.

However, things seemed to have taken a dramatic turn for the worse. Not only is Harvey off the card the fact she isn’t fighting in Spain on July 6 has caused a split in the promotional company.

Iñaki Jano, now formerly of PBK Promotions,  contacted Irish-boxing.com to confirm Harvey was off the card.

Jano believes the reason behind the agreed fight not going ahead is because of fears the 37 year old Dubliner would take the spotlight away from European champion Diaz.

“The fight will not be going ahead. We are still not been given an explanation by PBK promotions. We assume that Katy Diaz team did not want Harvey on the card as to not over shadow the main event,” said the fight manager before revealing he won’t work with PBK again.

“I have severed my ties with PBK due to differences that can not be corrected. I will continue to work with Lynn Harvey unconditional as adviser if she so wishes.”
Speaking on Social Media revealed she was unaware as to why the bout was cancelled.
