Hanney ready to win title and jump into boxing fast lane

JAKE HANNEY is ready to fast track his way into the World rankings with WBA Pan Asian victory in Oz this weekend.

Hanney has been offered the chance to fight for the Pan Asian belt after just three fights. Even more exciting for the Australian based welterweight if he wins the vacant title he will become mandatory for WBA PABA belt, a strap which offers passage into the World top 15.

So if he beats John Ford in Fox Studios the 24 year old could be in a position to fight for a World ranking in just fifth fight.

“This is a huge chance for me to fast track my career. If I win this titleĀ I become mandatory for the PABA.Ā Win that and itĀ puts me into the top 10-15 ranking in the world ,Ā after just 4 or 5 fights,” He told Irish-boxing.com.Ā “You’d probably be waiting 2-3 years at home for that opportunity.”

“Winning this titleĀ would leaveĀ me in a great spot. ItĀ sets me up for another recognised titleĀ with a big world ranking at the end of it. Or I could defend a few times and build my way to the next one.Ā It opens a lot of doors.”

Standing between Hanney and the title is Thailand’s John Ford. Ford has had mixed fortune as a pro winning six of 11 fights. However, five of those victories came via stoppage and Hanney claims his 23 year old foe posses power worth being wary off.

“I fight John Ford from Thailand. He isĀ a really good strong lad.Ā He is dangerousĀ and his power makes him a danger. He is Ā a big banger. His record is 6-4-1 , with 5 of his six wins coming via knock out. He’s has alsoĀ been 10 roundsĀ a few times so he is experienced.”

There is a ‘things are falling into place’ feel for Hanney regarding the title fight. He enters the 10 round contest full of confidence having be presented with the Young Fighter of The Year Award by they Australian board.

Plus he fights alongside fellow Irish fighters and stable mates TJ Doheny and Ger Clancy on the fight card.

“Winning the award is great. It lets you know your doing the rights things andĀ you are getting noticed. It gives you that extra push you need. The focus has always been there, but I thinkĀ the title on the line has made me more and more hungry.”

“Really excited about fighting for a title and I just can’t wait to get in there and fight now.”
