Hand break heartbreak for Con Sheehan

Tipperary heavyweight Con Sheehan [6(1)-0] has been dealt another blow a his pro career waits to kick into gear.

The former top amateur has learnt that he has fractured his hand, and the Clonmel man will be forced to spend some time on the sidelines.

The break, which occurred in sparring last night, has ruled Sheehan out of his fight date on the undercard of heavyweight stablemate Hughie Fury’s WBO world title challenge against champ Joe Parker at the Manchester Arena on Saturday September 23rd.

An estimated return date for ‘Con The Bomb’ is not known.

2017 has not gone to plan for Sheehan. Following an eight-round win over Ferenc Zsalek in Belfast in March, he saw a potential fight in April on the initial Parker-Fury card scrapped and a Manchester fight date in May fall through. In between these his sanctioned Irish title fight with Sean Turner put on the backburner after Big Sexy lost to Kamil Sokolowski.

28 year old Sheehan grabbed a win in June over Thomas Mrazek, but was left “embarrassed” by his performance, and now he has see another fight on a big card slip through his gloves.

The big heavyweight remarked “when will this nightmare of a year end?”
