Guillaume Frenois insists that “I’m much better than Jono Carroll” – targets Fake Champ Farmer

Guillaume Frenois [46(12)-1(0)-1] claims he would do a better job on Tevin Farmer than former foe Jono Carroll.

Indeed, the Frenchman insists that ‘King Kong’ only got his shot at the IBF super featherweight world champion last month because he allowed the bout to happen.

The former European champion drew with Carroll in a world title final eliminator and considering he went into the fight with a higher ranking could have evoked mandatory status and fought Farmer [29(6)-4(1)-2] on St Patrick’s Weekend in Philadelphia.

However, Frenois explains that he stepped aside after a request from the IBF and Matchroom and after he was promised a fight with the winner.

That fight has yet to be offered and the 35-year-old tricky southpaw isn’t too happy.

“Farmer knows that my boxing style is his worst nightmare,” said Frenois when speaking to The Ring.

“I’m much better than Carroll and all the previous boxers he fought. He is a fake champion and he knows that. Maybe that’s why he’s avoiding me.”

Frenois is also adamant he should have got the nod against Matchroom’s Carroll when they fought in Sheffield in December of last year.

Carroll, after a strong start during which he hurt Frenois, faded down the stretch but the final verdict was a 115-113, 113-115, 114-114 split draw.

The Frenchman recalls how “I won, obviously.”

“The IBF supervisor, Eddie Hearn, the crowd, Carroll’s team, Irish fans and the thousands of messages received are unanimous. I won this world title eliminator.”

“I clearly deserved to fight Farmer, but the IBF board and Matchroom asked us respectfully to let Carroll fight Farmer on St. Patrick’s weekend. We didn’t mind because we had the guarantee that I will fight the winner before June 13th. It’s official.”

Over the weekend, the IBF publically ordered the Farmer-Frenois fight, with a deadline for negotiations of May 7th.

Last month Carroll [16(3)-1(0)-1]would push Farmer hard, losing unanimously but winning respect for a game showing.

The Dublin 26-year-old is currently plotting his next move, and recently called out England’s Scott Quigg.
