Golden hue to Hogan’s silver lining – Team Hurricane to link up with Oscar De La Hoya

The silver lining Dennis Hogan has talked about since his controversial defeat to Jaime Munguia has a golden hew to it.

While his team called for justice and put pressure on the WBO in the weeks following the Mexican ‘robbery’ the deliberately positive Hogan was adamant some good would come from the light middleweight world title heartache.

The 34-year-old revealed increased interest from American promoters and was adamant his belief he would one day become world champion hadn’t waned.

The Brisbane-based Kildare boxer was not all about the ‘silver lining’ as chose to point out some negatives in a bid to highlight wrong doings in the sport, but he did suggest some good would come of the Munguia defeat – and it seems Hogan was right.

Hogan would be happier sitting with a world title around his waist planning a Dublin-hosted defence against Spike O’Sullivan, but he has got the consolation prize to some degree by teaming up with Golden Boy.

DDP’s Paul Keegan and their American adviser Peter Kahn spent the weekend in Las Vegas talking to the powers that be in Golden Boy – and it seems not only do Oscar De La Hoya and Eric Gomez believe Hogan was hard done by against their man, they want to work with the light middleweight to ensure he fulfills his world title dream.

Official or full details of the link up have yet to be revealed but DDP have confirmed that Hogan’s next fight will take place after the summer, Stateside, and under the Golden Boy banner.

DDP, who have brought Hogan to world level, will co-promote with the American powerhouse when it comes to ‘The Hurricane’ – and the link up could open quick passage back to a world title fight.

Paul Keegan also revealed ‘plans have been laid out’ to get Hogan back into a world title fight.

Hogan joins the likes of Jason Quigley, Spike O’Sullivan, and Aaron McKenna as Irish fighters with Golden Boy affiliations.
