Galway’s John O’Donnell to defend English title on big TV card

John O’Donnell [32(11)-2(1)] had seen his British title final eliminator delayed, but it will now feature on a much bigger card.

The Galway welterweight was set to defend his English title against Tamuka Mucha [16(4)-1(0)] this weekend at the York Hall in London. The defence would double as a British title final eliminator for a shot at outright beltholder Bradley Skeete.

However, the fight was postponed due to a minor injury suffered by the Irishman. Today though it has been confirmed that the fight will now feature on a big televised card next month.

It has been confirmed today that O’Donnell v Mucha will be the chief support bout on the inaugural Hayemaker Ringstar show which takes place in London at the O2 Indigo on Friday October 20th.

The show will be aired on comedy channel Dave.

The card is headlined by the debut of heavyweight Joe Joyce. The Englishman won Olympic silver last year and jumps straight into the deep end with a fight against recent British title challenger Ian Lewison.

31 year old O’Donnell won the English belt on St Patrick’s weekend against Erick Ochieng. Skeete is widely expected to vacate the British title in the near future, meaning that O’Donnell-Mucha may be upgraded to a title fight should the timings line up.

Mucha defeated Belfast’s Paddy Gallagher in an eliminator last November, but has since been defeated by Serge Ambomo. Gallagher himself defends his BBBoC Celtic title and looks to move into contention for the British on October 6th against Gary Murray in Edinburgh.
