Fury sees faults in WBO champ Parker

Hughie Fury believes he is the best active heavyweight in the world right now, and plans to start proving this when he takes on WBO champ Joseph Parker [22(18)-0].

The two are due to meet in the coming months at a date and location to be confirmed, and Fury [20(10)-0] is confident that he has the beating of the New Zealander.

“It’s a really good fight,” said Fury on Boxnation. “I rate Parker as one of the best Heavyweights out there at the minute. But I believe I am the best Heavyweight out there and I’m going to prove that.”

Parker overcame Mexican-American Andy Ruiz via a close majority decision in Auckland to win the title, and Fury claims he saw some chinks in the armour that morning.

“There were a lot of faults in it. There were a lot of things that gave me encouragement,” he continued, “but you just can’t go off that fight.”

“He’s a good, young talent. I believe when I beat him he can come back and get another world title. It doesn’t matter what he brings. Whatever he brings I’ve got the answer for it!”

Still only 22, the World Youth gold medalist stressed that he is ready for the step up to world title level and to follow in the footsteps of his cousin – the undefeated former WBA/IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

The youngster said that “I believe I’ve already got the experience.”

“I’ve had the experience when Tyson fought for his world title. I’ve had the best sparring in the world. I’m mentally ready now. I had my first fight at 11 years old in the amateurs. I sacrificed all the going out and partying – what a normal teenager has.”

“It’s always been 100% boxing for me. My goal is to become a world champion, Tyson’s done it – now I’m the next one in line.”
