Frank Warren has “very sexy” plans for Frampton and featherweight rivals

Old uncle Frank has a master plan.

Veteran promoter Frank Warren pulled off a coup yesterday when he announced a link-up with IBF super middleweight champ James DeGale and IBF featherweight titlist Lee Selby, with the pair set to headline a BT Sport show at the CopperBox in London on Saturday December 9th.

With regards to Selby, the Welshman’s association with Warren comes at a time following the Queensberry chief’s capture of leading names Josh Warrington and Carl Frampton from Matchroom and Cyclone.

Warren is keen to match the trio together and already has a road map set out.

On Saturday Warrington put on a career-best performance to stop Denmark’s Dennis Ceylan in an IBF final eliminator Warren intends to pit the popular Leeds boxer and long-time rival Selby against each other next year.

The Londoner then wants to put the winner in with Frampton – who himself returns to the ring in Belfast at the SSE Odyssey Arena on Saturday November 18th.

Waren outlined how “Josh won his eliminator on Saturday in good style, stopping Ceylan, and I was very impressed with him. I thought he made a bit of a statement actually, he wore him down and broke his heart.”

“So now, after his fight on the 9th [of December], Lee has to defend his title as ordered by the IBF against Josh – and we’ll be looking to put that fight on in Leeds some time in April. That [Elland Road] would be the favourite but we’ll see where we’re going .”

“We”re doing all we can to make these fights happen and, who knows, the winner of that fight could go on and fight Carl.”

Warren standing on the domestic scene has been resurgent over the past year, and the promoter is keen to set up some big domestic clashes to determined the best around.

He explained how “I’ve been talking about this for quite a while and obviously we’ve got a great situation going on in that weight division as well with Josh Warrington and Carl Frampton.”

“It’s a very sexy situation as far as we’re concerned with these guys. They’re all top quality fighters and we’re doing our best to find out who is the best out of them.”
