Frampton fight plan to be confirmed soon – Frank Warren reveals likely time for ring return

Carl Frampton‘s next steps should be put in place some time this week.

The Belfast featherweight was left to reconsider his future in the sport following his loss to IBF champ Josh Warrington last month.

Thankfully, for fight fans, Frampton [26(15)-2(0)] is keen to continue having discussed his options with his team and family.

32 next month, ‘The Jackal’ feels his loss to Warrington was more due to underperformance rather than an underlying issue and he believes that he can still win a world title in the stacked 126lbs division.

However, it’s pretty much big fights only for Frampton who wants to go straight into a title fight or, at most, have one lead-in bout.

Promoter Frank Warren, who met with Frampton in London on Thursday gone, is delighted with his fighter’s decision and expects a solid plan to be in place in the coming days.

The Queensberry boss outlined how “I had a good chat with Carl Frampton and the good news is that he indicated his desire to carry on boxing and hopefully we will be in a position sometime this week to firm up what the future holds for him.”

“To my mind, Carl has got plenty left in the tank and shouldn’t have judged himself harshly after coming up against an inspired Josh Warrington in December.”

A summertime fight with WBO champion Oscar Valdez has been mooted and Frampton himself has noted that he will not be fighting until after the conclusion of his court case with Cyclone Promotions in May.

Warren intends for the Tiger’s Bay boxer to be out the month afterwards – which would line up nicely with Valdez’s schedule, with the Mexican returning from a broken jaw next month in a soft defence versus Italian Carmine Tommasone

The English promoter explained how Frampton “rightly wants the big fights now and is deserving of them. We will get to work on making them happen for him, starting around June time.”
