Frank Warren denies that Luke Jackson deal is done for Frampton fight

Carl Frampton’s Windsor Park opponent has yet to be finalised claims promoter Frank Warren.

Irish boxing journalist Kevin Byrne reported on Sunday afternoon that Luke Jackson [16(7)-0] looked set to man the opposition corner as ‘The Jackal’ fulfills his stadium dream on August 18th. The Irish Sun writer would later state that he had had the featherweight match-up confirmed to him.

The 33-year-old Australian is a managerial stablemate of Frampton, and MTK adviser Mike Altamura had said last month that he was looking to make the fight. It was believed the WBO #5 would be announced as an interim title defence for the 31-year-old Belfast boxer, who has seen his big name options dwindle, at a press conference on Wednesday.

The 2012 Olympian has since teased on social media that he has begun training for a major fight in 10 weeks time.

However, Warren claims no deal has been agreed with any fighter and the role of opponent is still up for grabs and that he is in negotiations with a number of fighters from the WBO top ten.

The English promoter is hoping to announce the other side of the the top of the bill on Wednesday but revealed to Shaun Brown of BoxingScene yesterday that a couple of names remain in the mix.

“We’re having a press conference on Wednesday and we are negotiating with a couple of opponents,” Warren said.

It remains Warren’s vision to match Frampton with Queensberry stablemate Josh Warrington having previously mooted a December arena fight in Manchester.

“The plan is with Carl he’ll have that fight [on August 18th] and then straight after that fight we go to him and Warrington,” he added.

The other nine fighters in the WBO top ten are Mark Magsayo, Sakaria Lukas, Genasis Servania, Oleg Malynovskyi, Manuel Avila, Ryan Walsh, Richard Pumicpic, Erick Ituarte, Nathaniel May.

Filipino pair Magsayo and Servania especially would be seen as superior opponents to Jackson, whose reported selection has been the subject of criticism from fans and commentators. Indeed all bar Ituarte and Malynovskyi are ranked higher than the Tasmanian with BoxRec.com

BoxingScene also hint two world title fights could be confirmed for the out door undercard this Wednesday, one of which could be a WBO title shot versus flyweight champion Sho Kimura for Paddy Barnes – who recently had been said to be in talks with former Olympic rival Zou Shiming.
