Frampton will haunt Kiko again and move toward super stardom say McGuigan

CARL Frampton is going to give Kiko Martinez another nightmare and take him out of World champion dream land in Belfast on September 6, say mentor Barry McGuigan.
Since the IBF super bantamweight title fight was confirmed, Martinez has been quick to suggest his 2013 knockout reverse to Frampton was ‘an off day’. Indeed, a bad day he is keen to rectify in Belfast in early September.
However, Irish Boxing Legend and former World champion, McGuigan is adamant ‘The Jackal’ will prove that on or off Martinez isn’t off the same quality as the Belfast fighter when the old foes get reacquainted.
“Kiko Martinez felt he had an off night when he fought Carl in February 2013, but we are going to prove on September 6 that he didn’t because he is going to have a nightmare against Carl again,” said the Cyclone Promotions CEO.
“I think Martinez has improved, but Frampton has improved leaps and bounds. I think it is a fabulous fight and might even be better than the last one, but there will only be one winner.”
McGuigan has long since heralded Frampton as a potential superstar of not just Irish but World boxing and he claims the upcoming World title fight will catapulted toward superstar status.
“I think this kid can be a superstar and this, September 6 is the start of it. After that we are into mega fights.

“We want big fights in America and we want to bring big fights to Belfast. Money is important but recognition on the other side of the pond is important too, so I think Frampton will be a sensation over there because of how he fights – aggressively but defensively. He is smart, clever attacking fighter who can also fight off the back foot.

“I think the Americans will love him, maybe even to the point they don’t want him to box over here anymore.”
