Frampton undercard fighter gets new fight date following show cancellation

The previously postponed Carl Frampton v Andres Gutierrez card was today officially cancelled, but one of the undercard fighters has already secured a new fight date.

This evening it was announced that Belfast super middleweight Pádraig McCrory [1(0)-0] will fight in Blackpool at the start of next month.

The Frampton homecoming bill at the SSE Odyssey Arena was initially due to take place on July 29th, with McCrory and a further four Irish fighters on the undercard.

The Channel 5-broadcast card was however cancelled the night before due to a freak injury suffered by Gutierrez, who slipped in the shower and suffered severe facial and dental damage.

Cyclone Promotions had hoped to reschedule the card for a date in November, but the McGuigan-ran outfit confirmed this afternoon that an agreement could not be reached.

While it was bad news for St James’s fighter McCrory, he was subsequently confirmed for a Neil Marsh show at the Hilton Hotel in Blackpool on Friday September 1st just hours later.

Other names on the bill include Matthew Wigglesworth, Mick Hall, and a middleweight bout between RP Davies and George Rhodes.

It is one of two fight dates for McCrory who is also set to feature on the second Kieran Farrell Promotions Belfast show at the Devenish Venue in Belfast at the Devenish Complex on Friday October 6th.
