Carl Frampton takes aim at Ryanair and stands up for fans

Don’t mess with ‘The Jackal Army’ or you’ll have Carl Frampton to answer to.

The Belfast fighter is currently preparing himself to take on Josh Warrington on Saturday December 22nd in Manchester but diverted his attention to Ryanair today.

‘The Jackal’ accused the no-frills airline of cancelling flights which deductive fans had booked before the official announcement only to put them back on sale at a higher price.

So upset was the former world champion, who challenges for the IBF featherweight beltholder three days shy of Christmas, that he took to Twitter to call out Ryanair, labelling them ‘disgraceful’ and claiming they should ‘be ashamed’.

It’s further proof of the unique relationship the fighter has with his fans. Not only was Frampton aware of the issue but was willing to stand up for his support.

Ryanair have rejected the claims and responded online.

A Ryanair spokesperson also told the Belfast Telegraph that “some flights on this route were temporarily unavailable on our website due to a server issue last Monday (Oct 1), which was quickly resolved.”

“Fares on this route have not ‘doubled’, but start from just £9.99 (for travel on Dec 21) and we look forward to carrying thousands of boxing fans to and from Manchester for the fight.”

“Our fares are sold on a first come, first served basis, rise only as quickly as the lowest fare class is sold, and our flights are particularly busy that weekend given it’s Christmas week.”

That said, while Ryanair are indeed offering low-cost outward flights from Belfast on the 21st and 22nd, flights home from Manchester on Sunday 23rd are currently on offer at an eye-watering €129.53.

This is more than double the price of any other day in December – with Saturday 22nd the next most expensive at €50.99 and almost every other day coming in at €9.99.
