Frampton: I will deliver blood and guts to ensure I get Cruz fight

CARL Frampton is going to do it Gladiator style in the Odyssey Arena this coming Friday night by giving the watching public the blood and guts they want to see.

The Jackal takes on two weight world champion Hugo Cazares in the toughest fight of his career on an exciting ‘This is Belfast’ fight card. And the undefeated 27 year old isn’t just predicting a win he is predicting an eye catching demolition of the tough Mexican.

Having seen the Gary Hyde managed Guillermo Rigondeaux dropped from HBO despite being one of the most talented fighters on the planet, Frampton knows being TV friendly will help him secure a coveted World title shot and bigger fights there after.

Just like in the Collosims in Roman times the present day fight fan desires blood and Frampton is going to deliver it to ensure he gets a shot at WBC super bantamweight Leo Santa Cruz.

“I plan to win the fight and impress while doing it,” he told the Belfast Newsletter.

“It is very important to be exciting and I believe Guillermo Rigondeaux is in the top three pound for pound in the World at the minute. He has two World titles in the bag after only 13 fights and HBO have dropped him because of his style.

“It’s not right and I don’t agree with it – but they want to see blood and guts – and that is the way it is.

“Golden Boy will be in Belfast to watch my fight and I know I have to win and impress if I want to face their WBC champ Santa Cruz,” he added.

Frampton can sympathise with former Willie Casey defeator, Rigondeaux after he produced a back foot boxing masterclass only to be criticised for not going for the juglar against Raul Hirales.

“I got a bit of stick after fighting Raul Hirales in Nottingham on the undercard of Carl Froch’s World title fight against Lucian Bute. Hirales was a very capable fighter and I beat him on points after winning every round. I got stick from the commentators, and I don’t I think I deserved that.

“I know – with the Santa Cruz fight around the corner – I have to look good. The average man in the street listens to the commentators, but real boxing fans don’t – but most of the people watching take on board what they are saying. So is very important to be exciting and entertain the people watching.”
