Carl Frampton [23(14)-1(0)] got to size up his next opponent yesterday and noticed something very sizeable indeed.

Following a cordial press conference at the Europa Hotel in Belfast, Mexican Andres Gutierrez [35(25)-1(0)-1] got right in Frampton’s face in what was their first face-off.

The opponent for the July 29th clash at the SSE Odyssey Arena has a size advantage over ‘The Jackal,’ especially in one area.

“He’s got a big massive head,” Frampton joked afterwards.

“A big target, but a good chin. I always associate people with big heads being able to take a good shot.”

“I’ve a big head but, Jesus, his is a breeze block!”

Frampton believes there are similarities between the Mexican and former opponent Kiko Martinez, whom he defeated for the European and IBF World super bantamweight titles in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

The Tigers Bay man noted how Gutierrez is “a little bit similar to Kiko. A good bit bigger than Kiko, maybe not as good head movement as Kiko, but better punch selection than Kiko.”

“It’s going to be a difficult fight, but I think the style that he has, that’s when I look my best. I love fighting that sort of style, hands-up, come-forward, aggressive.”

“I think he punches a bit slower than me, I have the edge in speed. I think we punch similarly as hard as each other.”

Gutierrez missed weight by a full four pounds for his WBC Silver featherweight title loss to Cristian Mijares, and Frampton noted that “he’s pretty heavy, he wouldn’t be a kick in the arse off eleven stone (154lbs) at the minute, we’ll see.”

“I just think I’m a better fighter than him. He’s a good fighter, but I’m a better one.

“It’s a good fight, and it’s no pushover.”
