Former Irish Champion Fury free to box again

Former heavyweight champion of Ireland Tyson Fury is free to fight again.

The undefeated former heavyweight World champion looks set to return to the ring in 2018 after coming to a comprise with the UK Anti Doping agency (UKAD) on Tuesday.

The new MTK signing was charged by UKAD after testing positive for a banned substance. The charge was laid at his door in June 2016 just seven months after his victory over former undisputed  heavyweight #1 Wladimir Klitschko and resulted in a two year ring absence.

Fury explained the elevated levels of nandrolone metabolites in his system came after he had consumed uncastrated wild boar, inclusive of entrails and testicles, which has a history of being contaminated with banned substances.

The former Irish boxing licence holder wasn’t cleared of all wrong doing by UKAD, who he has vocally criticised in recent times whilst speaking out against doping, rather he accepted a two year ban which was back dated to December 2015.

So Fury is now free to return to the ring and mega fights with the likes of Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder become a possibility again.

A statement on the UKAD website said Fury “never knowingly or deliberately committed any anti-doping rule violation.”

Fury himself stated

“I’m a fighting man through and through and I’ve never backed down from anyone in my life and I was certainly not going to back down from fighting this dispute.”

“We’re happy that it has finally been settled with UKAD and that we can move forward knowing that we’ll not be labelled drug cheats. I can now put the nightmare of the last two years behind me, which has been particularly hard on my family.”

“Next year I will be back doing what I do best, better than ever, and ready to reclaim the world titles which are rightfully mine. It’s time to get the party started,” he added.
