Floyd Mayweather refuses to engage in Conor McGregor contract talk

Irish mixed martial arts superstar Conor McGregor revealed this morning that he has come to an agreement with his bosses at the UFC and signed a contract to face five-weight boxing champ Floyd Mayweather – however, we will have to wait until the weekend to hear Mayweather’s response.

‘Money’ Mayweather is in London at the moment for his protégé Gervonta Davis’s IBF super featherweight title defence against Liam Walsh, and he claims that is his main priority.

Today, at the final press conference for the fight at the Copper Box, Mayweather would move to hush talk of a cross-codes clash with McGregor, instead wanting to focus on the Davis v Walsh fight – which will be shown live on BT Sport and BoxNation.

Mayweather had been questioned about the fight last night, and said that “from now until Saturday, I don’t want anybody asking me about McGregor. After Tank’s fight you can ask me about the McGregor fight, then I’ll answer.”

The resultant storm of UFC lightweight (155lbs) champion McGregor’s announcement this morning has not changed this, and the Michigan fighter reacted harshly to a question about the Dubliner at today’s press conference.

Mayweather responded by saying “”This is Liam Walsh and Gervonta Davis’s press conference, let’s focus on these two competitors. That’s a total disrespect to these two fighters, this is their press conference, let’s talk about them.”

Afterwards he would reiterate that “I’m just focused on Gervonta’s fight. That’s what’s important at this particular time.”
