Fitzgerald: Fight fans will see a new improved me on my return to the ring

Anthony Fitzgerald claims fight fans will notice a marked improvement in him when he makes his MGM debut in Belfast next month.

The Dubliner returns to the ring for the first time since he suffered a points defeat to former World champion Hassan N’Dam in December of last year when he goes to work in the Holiday Inn, Belfast on June 14.

It’s ‘The Pride’s’ first fight since he teamed up with Macklin’s Gym Marbella and new coach Seamus Macklin, younger brother of Irish middleweight Matthew Macklin.

The inner city Dub admits ring rust might play a part against a yet to be named opponent, but the fighter, who had to pull out of a Dublin date earlier this year due to a neck issue, is adamant fight fans will still see an improved display.

“My neck is holding up grand. I am glad I got it sorted. I can really notice the difference. I cant wait to get back into the ring. It was hard to take having to pull out last time, but getting the neck injury sorted was important,” Fitzgerald explained to Irish-boxing.com.

“There will be a big and visible improvement, not just because the injury is gone, but  I am learning new tings every day with Seamus and I plan to bring them into the fight.

“Plus in the MGM you get top quality sparring. There are host of champions and quality fighters in the gym, so I am getting great sparring. Just today I did six rounds today with Mark Heffron you can’t  get much better than that.”

‘Fitzy’s’ fight on a Belfast card that includes fellow Dub’s Declan Geraghty and Sean Turner will be at middleweight, but the former Irish champion revealed like former foe Andy Lee he is ready to drop to light middleweight.

“This fight is at middle then I am going down to light middle and I will be hunting all the light middles out there. This fight is just to get back in and get the ring rust of me. My team hope to have me fighting for titles by the end of the year.”
