Fittest ever Stevie Collins keen for test as comeback continues

Steve Collins Jr is desperate to be tested at the Devenish tonight.

Having tasted defeat against Paddy McDonagh in an Irish light heavyweight title fight back in June the Wolfhound is on somewhat of a redemption mission.

However, rather than bemoan the reverse, the former rugby player accepted he had to learn and improve.

The Castleknock puncher has switched teams, signed up with the MTK management outfit, and is looking to build under the radar in Belfast.

With that in mind he is keen on a fight tonight on the Ginley Promotions ‘Danger at The Devenish 2’ card which will see him bank rounds and the kind of experience he can put to use in bigger 2018 fights.

After recording a comeback win over Latvian journeyman Edgars Sniedze, Hungarian Istvan Orsos [16(5)-42(14)-2] is the man charged with testing The Wolfhound this weekend.

The Magyar southpaw came to fight against Steven Ward back during the Summer, and was eventually stopped in the fourth round.

A stoppage isn’t on the mind of the 27 year old Dub, who wants experience.

“I’m looking to fight the six rounds at a fast, hard pace because I’ve never been as fit as I am now,” said Collins.

“Hopefully my opponent is decent and he’s not just there to pick up a cheque. Steven [O’Rourke] has me in great shape, I’m in a good place. MTK are keeping me busy and I’m happy with how things are going heading into the new year.”
