Finally! – Forgotten man handed first fight in 21 months

Liam Gaynor [2(0)-0] will fight for the first time in 21 months when he take to the ring in July.

Somewhat of a forgotten fixture the young Tallaght fighter hasn’t graced a ring since November 2017.

The Kilnamanagh lightweight has endured rotten luck since and has been out of the ring for a frustratingly long period.

Gaynor saw three fights fall through in 2018 and was left in boxing limbo at the start of this year.

Now the Dubliner’s fortunes seems set to change as he has relocated to England and teamed up with Alex Matvienko.

Gaynor will be trained and managed by the former pro and will work under the Elite Boxing Gym and VIP Promotions banner and they have handed him a July fight date.

The former Steven Kavanagh-trained fighter will make his English debut at the AJ Stadium in Manchester on July 26.

Matvienko has coached Jack Flatley to the English title and guided Luke Blackledge to Commonwealth success.

Gaynor becomes the first fighter to be managed by the trainer who retired from boxing in 2010.

The link up was officially confirmed last week, but the 21 year old has been training in the gym for some time.
