Fighter Favourites: Pretty Boy Declan Geraghty

Here at Irish-Boxing.com we want to find out who are the stars that Irish fighters themselves look up to – the boxers who made them don the gloves as children. To find this out, we have begun a new weekly feature called Fighter Favourites.

Featured this week is upcoming Irish super featherweight title challenger Declan Geraghty [14(4)-1(0)].

Q: Favourite Current Fighter?
A: That would have to be Adrian Broner or Vasyl Lomachenko. I love watching Broner videos, he’s very outspoken and there’s always some sort of drama with him. He’s never boring to watch. Lomachenko is one of the P4P best. His movement is just world class, beautiful to look at and study.

Q: Favourites of All Time?
A: Floyd Mayweather, Mike Tyson, and Muhammad Ali. Mayweather is just a once off, like the records he’s broke and never took much punishment in all his 49 fights – that alone is remarkable. Tyson was just a killer and everyone loved to watch him and Ali, for me, was the man who made boxing the way it is today

Q: Favourite Irish Fighter?
A: Bernard Dunne was the man who everyone looked up to in Dublin. When l was taking a real interest in pro boxing he was the man wining a world title and filling out The Point. He always got the crowds.

Q: Favourite Fight?
A: Ali v Frazier are the ones that always stick out to me.

Q: Favourite of your own Fights?
A: That would be me v Conor Ahern in the 2009 Senior Finals. I’ve fought World champions and European champions, but to win my very first Senior Title when no one thought I could, moving up in weight for the first time, entering the seniors, and facing a lad who was dominating the weight in Ireland for so many years.
