Fighter Favourites: Con Sheehan

Every week we chat to an Irish boxer about their favourites from the sport. The fighters and the fights that inspire them.

This week it is the turn of former Tipperary amateur star and current pro heavyweight Con Sheehan [4(1)-0].

Q: Favourite Current Fighter?
A: My favourite current fighter is Terence Crawford. He’s class to watch and has it all now, any kind of way. I love his attitude as well.

Q: Favourite of All Time?
A: All time favourite fighter is a hard one. There’s a few, Bernard Hopkins, Alexis Arguello, Roy Jones Jr, and Floyd Mayweather, I couldn’t pick one over the other.

Q: Favourite Irish Fighter?
A: Andy Lee. I grew up looking up to him and he’s one of the nicest blokes you could meet. At the moment it’s Carl Frampton, it’s brilliant to see him doing so well. I remember him telling me he was thinking of going pro at some multi-nations in the Czech Republic… who would have imagined he’d be where he is now?

Q: Favourite Fight?
A: That is between Alexis Arguello v Aaron Pryor or any of the Evander Holyfield v Riddick Bowe fights, all three of them were mental, pure heart.

Q: Favourite of you own Fights?
A: My own favourite fight is an easy one. For me it was against John Sweeney in the quarter finals of the 2008 Seniors – my first year senior. Everyone was saying that I’d be stopped, I was too young, and were blowing John Sweeney up because he lasted three rounds against a Russian in the Worlds in Chicago. That really annoyed me because I was winning everything and I wasn’t given a chance. I knew I’d win and I didn’t just win the fight – I destroyed him and made my mark as a senior boxer.
