Fight date confirmed for Peter McDonagh

Three-weight Irish champion Peter McDonagh [27(3)-28(2)-1] has had his first fight of 2017 confirmed.

The 39 year old Galway welterweight, unbeaten in 11, has been added to a bill at the Westcroft Leisure Centre in Carshalton, London, on Saturday, February 11th.

The card is headlined by the much-delayed European light welterweight title fight between Wexford-descendant Lenny Daws and Phil Sutcliffe-defeater Anthony Yigit.

Also scheduled to feature on the Hennessy Sports show alongside the MGM fighter are Kirk Garvey, Fabio Wardley, Jamie Carley, and Tony Bange.

It is an early start to 2017 for the Cinderella Man who fought twice last year, outpointing Arvydas Trizno over six in March and Marcin Cybulski over eight in October.

Not that it will matter to McDonagh – who espouses a ‘records are for DJs’ mantra – but a win next month will see the Connacht veteran hold a 50/50 record of wins and losses for the first time in 13 years.
