Fan-favourite Feargal McCrory – “I felt comfortable”

The WWE Royal Rumble was last weekend, but nobody told Gyula Tallosi.

The Hungarian journeyman did his best Triple H impression last night at the Europa Hotel as he sought to stem the constant flow of punches being reigned in by Feargal McCrory [4(1)-0].

McCrory, with what was a career-best performance, was dominant, downing the Central European twice before Tallosi was disqualified for excessive holding in the fourth.

Dissecting his performance, the Tyrone fighter saw improvements but was also frustrated by the nature of the fight. He told Irish-Boxing.com that “I felt comfortable, I felt in control, but he just came to survive, he didn’t try win, and he spoiled it. He was very ragged and dangerous with the head.”

“I picked up a chest infection this week and I didn’t even tell anybody about it because I didn’t want people to think I was making excuses before the fight – and I did feel good and I had trained very hard.”

“I tried to pick my shots and not get into a war. I thought I used my jab a lot more than I have done. I’ve been boxing really well in training and I was just hoping to perform the way I was training, but sometimes journeymen are just like that. It was what it was.”

Again McCrory brought a big crowd with him, with around 180 fans from 10 counties around Ireland, and they made plenty of noise for their man, something he was very appreciative of. He said that “I’m getting used to the big crowds, I just hope the people who came out and spent their hard-earned money enjoyed it. The people that come and support me are unbelievable.”

“You have people who are millionaires and people who are saving up their benefits. I just want them to enjoy themselves. Without them, there is no me.”

“My local press give me nothing, and the support that I have is out of this world, I can’t thank them enough. Also, my sponsors who are amazing, PK Murphy, Hagan’s Bar, Set Build NI, and E Quinn Contracts.”

Next up for McCrory is a step down to super featherweight, and a step up to eight rounds, on the Kieran Farrell Promotions show at the Devenish Complex in Belfast on April 22nd. Here he will top the bill in a title fight

McCrory is going ‘all in’ now, and is committed to making waves in the sport, describing how “It’s straight on to April. I’m not too sure about the opponent, but I know Kieran is working very hard to get a good opponent. I’m stepping up to eight rounds, and I think I’ll be a lot more suited to eight rounds. It’s not a rush, worrying about winning the first three.”

“I sacrifice my whole life. I don’t see my daughter some days – and I live with her! She’s sleeping when I get up and she’s sleeping when I get home. It’s hard. But I’m making these sacrifices and hopefully they’ll pay off.”

“I don’t drink anymore, and I’m giving this 110%.”
