EUBC European Women’s Youth and Junior Championships squad named

The Irish squad has been confirmed for next month’s EUBC European Women’s Youth and Junior Championships in Hungary.

A 17-strong Irish team will compete at the tournament between August 15th and 24th in Keszethely.

Former World and European Junior champions Ciara Ginty and Amy Broadhurst have been named in the Youth panel.

Broadhurst, who regularly medals in top international competition, will wear the Irish lightweight vest, while Ginty, an Olympic Youth silver medallist, lines out at light-welter.

Broadhurst claimed silver at the 2014 European Youth Championships after she was somehow adjudged to have lost the featherweight final to Valeria Manchak of the Ukraine in Assisi, Italy.

The dynamic Kildare duo won silver and bronze at the AIBA World Junior Championships in Taiwan last May.Meanwhile, Niamh Earley and Kelsey Leonard will be aiming to build on their World Junior success in Keszethely next month.

The Irish squad are due to begin a training camp at the St Brigid’s BC Edenderry, Offaly this Sunday until next Friday in the build up to Hungary. A number of top Youth boxers from Sweden will joint the camp.

The Irish squad are scheduled to depart for Hungary on August 14th.
