English boxer open to Paddy Barnes fight on Belfast card

Paddy Barnes [2(0)-0] will top the bill and fight for the WBO European title in his next fight, and the Belfast man is already attracting volunteers to be his opponent on June 17th.

The Cliftonville man tops the Queensberry Promotions BoxNation card at the Waterfront Hall in just under two months time and a former English title champion and British title challenger wants to be the man in the other corner.

Louis Norman [11(2)-3(0)-1] wants to take on Barnes in the Summer, and tonight expressed his willingness on Twitter.

He posted the following:

Norman defeated Nathan Reeve over ten for the English title back in 2013 before drawing with Don Broadhurst in his first defence. He would be dethroned by Charlie Edwards in 2015 before being outpointed by Andrew Selby for the British in 2016. Most recently, back in October, Norman made the step up to super fly to rematch Broadhurst for the English title, losing a split decision.

The Leicestershire 23 year old has previously called for a fight with Jamie Conlan, friend and stablemate of Barnes.

In the relatively sparse European flyweight division, other potential opponents for Barnes include the likes of Kevin Satchell, former European champion and World title challenger Silvio Olteanu, Commonwealth champion Jay Harris, and former Zhou Shiming opponent Jozsef Ajtai.
