eir Sport to start new Irish Boxing interview series – First up: TJ Doheny

eir Sport are to begin a new series of extended sit-down interviews with top Irish boxers.

The multi-part boxing series will be called ‘The Fighter’ and will get underway on Sunday February 24th at 8:30pm on eir Sport 1.

First up is Ireland’s only current male world champion TJ Doheny [21(15)-0].

The Portlaoise puncher will certainly have a story to tell, from amateur success to relocating to Australia, restarting boxing, rocketing up the ranks, and almost walking away before sensationally defeating Ryosuke Iwasa in Japan to claim the IBF super bantamweight title.

More recently, Doheny linked up with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom, defended his title for the first time in New York, and agreed a unification with WBA champion Danny Roman which looks set to play out in LA on April 6th.

It is the latest in an increasing amount of Irish boxing output from eir Sport.

In 2018 the channel aired both of Jason Quigley’s fights live, showed deferred coverage of Dennis Hogan’s World Title eliminator with Jimmy Kelly, ensured that the Golovkin-Canelo rematch was not on pay-per-view, and provided a number of preview shows and documentaries.
