Dylan Moran to make Mexican move as title chase heats up

Right after making a step up to six rounds, Dylan Moran [6(4)-0] will make the move to eight.

It has been confirmed that the Waterford welterweight will step up – and therefore obtain Irish title eligibility – on a show in Mexico on Saturday November 3rd.

Moran will box on a bill in Tijuana alongside 17-year-old Cork lightweight James Power before returing to Ireland for a big fight before Christmas – most likely on the mooted Assassin show.

An opponent for Moran will be confirmed in due course.

The Kilmacthomas prospect said that “I just want to be active – I’ve shown the fans what I can do and now I’m ready to step it up a notch, show every one in this division that I’m ready and willing to fight any man anywhere!”

“I put in a huge display in Dublin and after the fight I went straight to Assassin and said I want this fight. We sat down and agreed it and now I’m off to Mexico to fight eight rounds against a man in his own back yard and I couldn’t be more confident.”

“I’m 6-0 now and that’s going to be 7-0 if I can overcome this Mexican and then I’m hoping to be involved in a big show back home before Christmas.”

23-year-old Moran stopped Damian Lawniczak in the first round earlier this month in Tallaght.

Afterwards, ‘The Real Deal’ stated his desire to fight for a title in Mayo in December. The intriguing Irish welterweight scene took a twist afterwards when a BUI Celtic title defence from Jay Byrne versus Keane McMahon was mandated.

However, with Byrne set to fight Marc Kerr for the BBBoC Celtic light middleweight title in Scotland on November 30th, the Byrne-McMahon fight looks unlikely to land on any of the three bills in Ireland over the coming months and Moran may get a chance to slide in.
