Dylan Moran ready to live The American Dream

Dylan Moran admits his U.S. promotional move is a dream come true.

The Waterford welter has this morning had a link up with Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing confirmed and Moran will make his stateside debut next month.

It’s a good news story for Irish boxing, with the likeable Moran having entered the pros under-the-radar in 2017 without major amateur achievements or large fan-fare.

However, the St Paul’s graduate, now managed by Assassin Boxing, has built a 9(5)-0 record and a large fanbase which has been rewarded with a major U.S. deal.

Snapped up on a three-year contract by Star, Moran will fight on the Matchroom DAZN bill at the Turning Stone Casino in New York on Saturday March 9th.

The Kilmacthomas 24-year-old can hardly believe it and notes how “as a kid, I always dreamed of fighting in America, and being on the biggest cards. Now that dream is going to become a reality.”

“I have had a brilliant career so far with Assassin Boxing, and have had the chance of fighting on TG4, something I hope I will be able to do again. However, this opportunity my team have delivered is truly amazing.”

DeGuardia guides the careers of the likes of Demetrius Andrade, Chris Algieri, and Joe Smith Jr – who headlines the March 9th show in a WBA light heavyweight title challenge versus champ Dmitry Bivol.

The New Yorker is closely aligned with the DAZN-backed Eddie Hearn who is becoming a major player in the U.S. market and Moran is primly placed to benefit.

The Déise southpaw has aspirations for the top and outlined that “to join up with someone like Joe DeGuardia who has worked with the very best boxers in The States, it’s all so amazing.”

“To hear the plans that Joe and the guys have for me is unbelievable. No doubt the hard work starts now, and I now know if I continue to dedicate myself, the opportunities are there for me, and I will prove I am one of the best in the world.””

DeGuardia is delighted to pick up Moran and described how “it is great to sign one of the leading names in Irish boxing. Dylan Moran is a fantastic boxer with real pedigree.”

“With a huge Irish connection on the East Coast, Dylan has every ingredient to become a star in Ireland and America. I am really looking forward to working with him.”

Conor Slater of Assassin, who remain Moran’s managers, added that “ee are delighted to have got Dylan this opportunity. This is the start of something really special.”

“He has a huge profile here in Ireland and that’s going to continue to grow but now he has the chance to take his career inside the ring to the next level.”

“This time next year you’re going to be talking about Dylan Moran in the same breath as world champions.”
