Dusmatov hoping to steal ahead of Barnes in race for Rio

Uzbek light-fly Hasanboy Dusmatov will move five points clear of Paddy Barnes in the race of the Rio 2016 Olympics in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) Individual rankings for 48 hours at least if he wins on a unanimous decision in London on Thursday night.

Dusmatov is slated to line out for the Ukraine Otmans versus Wales’ Ashley Williams of the British Lionhearts at York Hall.

Barnes, who will be in action for Italia Thunder along with Michael Conlan versus the USA Knockouts in Italy on Saturday night, and Dusmatov are in joint No.1 position on 20 points in the WSB Individual rankings.

However, if Dusmatov doesn’t win on a unanimous decision in the English capital Barnes will open up a lead at the top of the table with victory in Italy 48 hours later. Both boxers will have two fights each left after this weekend.

Barnes beat Ashley Williams en route to silver at the 2013 European Elite Championships in Minsk, Belarus.

The top ranked light-fly at the end of the regular WSB season next month will qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Conlan and Barnes depart for Italy on Thursday to join their Italia Thunder team-mates. John Conlan and Eddie Bolger will be working their corners against the USA.
