Duddy holds no fear

Irish middleweight star John Duddy believes a partisan Mexican crowd will have little bearing on the outcome of Saturdays mouthwatering clash with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Duddy, 29-1 (18KO) squares off with Chavez, 41-0-1 (30KO) for the WBC Silver title (interim) in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas with a shot at the WBC title the prize for the victor.

Many skeptics have argued that Duddy will need to score a knockout to get a draw in such unfamiliar surroundings, but the Derryman has said that rather than fearing a bad decision, he is looking forward to the contest.

It should be a great experience for me, he told irish-boxing.com.

I’m used to fighting in big fights in front of big crowds. Inside the ring they have no control of what can happen. So I’m looking forward to a good fight.

Preparations for the fight have gone well, and as a result Duddy is confident of victory.

Training went well so I think I’ve a good chance of winning.

Although Duddy is based in the States, he had his eyes closer to home with the release of the Saville report last week. Duddys uncle Jackie was among those who were killed on Bloody Sunday and the Derryman believes the resolve of the citys people has been rewarded.
