Doncaster bout for Wilton

Luke Wilton is closing in on a British title shot and the East Belfast flyweight travels to the Doncaster Dome on July 2 for the first of a three-fight deal with Frank Maloney.

22-year-old Wilton is expecting to get the chance to exact revenge over Usman Ahmed, the Derby stylist who beat Wilton by a single point in a four-rounder on a Maloney show in December 2008.

This one will be a six-rounder and that suits me just fine, stated the Eastside clubman.

I cant wait; Im busting to get at my opponent. If it is Ahmed and I beat him Ill have one more fight and then hopefully get a crack at the winner of the Ashley Sexton-Shinny Bayaar rematch.

Wilton is taking his preparations seriously and plans to travel to England for some quality sparring in Johnny Eames TKO gym where both Matthew Marsh and Ian Bailey ply their trade.

I was ringside for the first Sexton-Bayaar fight last month and thought that Bayaar won the fight comfortably, he said, and the fight proved that Sexton doesnt punch as hard as he thinks, at title level anyway.

Six-round fights suit me because Im more experienced now. Ive had six fights since the first Ahmed contest and Im maturing and improving. Jamie McDonnell is topping the bill on July 2 [in a European title defence against Rodrigo Bracco] and I cant wait to get in there and show the fans what I can do, enthused Winky.

One of Wiltons gym-mates Paul Kayes is also itching to get back into the ring following his pro debut on the May 8 Holiday Inn show in Belfast.

There isnt anything on the agenda at the moment, Alio was trying to get me on the Doncaster bill but it doesnt like it is going to happen, said Kayes.

Im still sparring Luke and to be honest I knew it would be frustrating getting regular fights because of my weight class. There isnt a great deal of fights to be made in the light-flyweight division.

Kayes added that he is keeping busy working full-time while waiting for a second outing.
