Dominant Davey Oliver Joyce scores another Odyssey stoppage

Davey Oliver Joyce continued his hugely impressive start to pro life on the big ‘Frampton Reborn’ card in Belfast tonight.

The Rio Olympian was fighting for the fifth time in five months and scored a dominant stoppage win.

The Mullingar super featherweight took on well-travelled Nicaraguan Reynaldo Cajina on the big card at the SSE Odyssey Arena, and pummelled the Barcelona-based journeyman into submission.

The aggression of Joyce proved way too much, and it was apparent from the opening bill, with ‘The Punisher’ landing meaty left hooks early on.

The Westmeath fighter, a former amateur rival and current sparring partner of headliner Frampton, switched to the body in the second, hurting Cajina. One such shot strayed low, with the Central American taking as much time from the indiscretion as he could.

Going into the third Cajina was ready to go, and it was one-way traffic for the entirety of the three minutes. The visitor, to his credit, managed to stay on his feet, but his corner would pull him out at the end of the round, handing Joyce another inside-the-distance win.

Joyce moves to 5(4)-0 following the win, with the battered Cajina dropping to 14(10)-46(11)-5.

At 30 years old, and with five wins under his belt alongside a litany of amateur experience, it is time to push Joyce on.
